Across Colorado, families are facing a new wave of uncertainty as federal SNAP food assistance is temporarily paused. The federal pause on SNAP benefits—which help more than 600,000 Coloradans buy groceries each month—has left thousands suddenly unsure how they’ll feed their families. Here in Boulder and Broomfield Counties alone, over 22,000 households are at risk of losing access to $4.5 million in monthly grocery assistance. While the state has proposed $10 million in emergency funds to help food banks like Community Food Share, that support replaces only a fraction of what’s needed.
We’re already preparing for a surge in families turning to us for help. Shelves that were once stocked for a week may now be empty in a single day. Our team is purchasing more food and working tirelessly to fill the gap—but the need is far outpacing our resources. Your financial support is the single most effective way to help right now. Each dollar allows us to act immediately, securing and distributing nutritious food where it’s needed most.
The community response has been inspiring. People are reaching out, asking how they can help—and that collective care gives us hope. The truth is, financial gifts make the biggest impact because they allow us to purchase the right foods in bulk, at lower cost, and get them into the hands of families quickly.
If you’re looking for other ways to support:
- Host a food drive with your neighbors, workplace, or community group.
- Ask your employer if they offer a matching gift program to double your impact.
- Join our monthly giving community to help provide consistent support year-round.
- Volunteer your time. Every extra set of hands helps us pack, sort, and distribute food to families in need.
Every act of generosity, large or small, helps to ensure our neighbors have access to the fresh, nourishing food they deserve. Together, we can make sure no one in our community goes hungry.
