Every summer, as schools let out and routines shift, something far more serious emerges for thousands of families in Boulder and Broomfield Counties: the loss of school meals. For many children, summer means 83 days of uncertainty—days where food isn’t a guarantee.

That’s why at Community Food Share, we’re on a mission to “Fuel Their Summer”. A fundraising initiative where we come together as a community to ensure children across our community don’t have to worry about where their summer meals will come from. As we work to bring the community together for this shared cause, we’re doing so not just at the individual level, but we’re also bringing together local companies with the reintroduction of our Corporate Challenge initiative!

For the past three decades, Corporate Challenge has brought together companies from across our region in a spirited competition to fight hunger. This year, it’s part of our larger Fuel Their Summer campaign—an effort to provide more than 384,000 meals to children who rely on us when school cafeterias close.

But Corporate Challenge is more than a fundraising campaign or a food drive. It’s a community movement.
It’s volleyball tournaments, kickball fields, and office outreach and volunteer projects. It’s coworkers sorting canned goods and volunteering side by side. It’s friendly competition, yes—but more than that, it’s shared purpose.

So, what is it?

Corporate Challenge runs from May 5 to June 12, 2025, inviting up to 40 local businesses to compete by earning points through:

  • Raising funds (each $1 = 6 points—and $6 worth of groceries!)

  • Donating food (1 point per pound)

  • Employee participation in events or volunteering (60 points per person)

It’s structured so that companies of all sizes can join in. Teams are placed into divisions based on employee count, keeping the competition fair—and the engagement strong.

Why does it matter?

Because hunger is a community issue. And it requires a community solution.

Involving local businesses does more than raise money—it builds awareness, creates partnerships, and strengthens the very fabric of our shared responsibility. Whether it’s a tech company assembling snack kits or a brewery hosting a celebration night, Corporate Challenge bridges sectors and brings people together for something bigger than themselves.

Every dollar raised and every hour volunteered directly helps the children we serve, whose families find stability and belonging at Community Food Share. Every moment spent participating helps remind our community that no child should spend summer worrying about their next meal.

The impact goes beyond the scoreboard.

At the end of the day, trophies will be handed out, logos will be placed on our trucks, and names will be celebrated—but the real win is collective. It’s in the connections formed, the awareness spread, and the tangible difference made in the lives of thousands of our neighbors.

So, whether your company is competing or you’re helping Fuel Their Summer on your own right—thank you. You’re not just fueling these next few months, You’re fueling childhood. You’re fueling summer. You’re fueling hope.

Let’s do this—together.
