Food Assistance Resources  ( free food )

Below is a list of local nonprofit organizations that are open to the public. Community Food Share provides food to these organizations, who in turn distribute it to their clients. All food distributed by Community Food Share and the nonprofit organizations we serve is distributed free of charge.

Also listed below, for your convenience, are government agencies that provide food assistance. (They do not receive food from us.)

At the bottom is a list of internal (direct distribution) programs of Community Food Share.


Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFAA)

Boulder Shelter for the Homeless
4869 North Broadway, Boulder
For all adults in need. Breakfast served to all 6:00am to 8:00 am daily, year-round. Closed from 10am to 5pm.
Evening meal served to overnight shelter occupants daily. Overnight shelter is open from October through April.


Bridge House

Breakfast served Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00am to 11:00am

For pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women in Boulder County with infants and children up to age five. Income guidelines apply.

2-1-1 is the number to call for referrals to human service organizations in the Denver/Boulder area. It is like 9-1-1 for emergencies, only it is 2-1-1 for referrals to services for those in need.

School lunches, free & reduced  (a federal program)
For schoolchildren of low income families. Apply at the school office of the school your child attends.


Feeding Families
For families whose children are enrolled in the free lunch program at Boulder or Broomfield County schools (income within 130% of the poverty line).
Please bring a picture ID, proof of residence and the free lunch letter to enroll.
Feeding Families Program Hours: Wednesday  10-4, Thursday  8:30-2, and Friday  8:30-2 (be here 30 minutes prior to closing so you have time to shop)

Elder Share
For low-income seniors (60+years old).
Supplemental groceries twice a month.

Anyone who walks in our door in need of food assistance will receive emergency help. See the Contact Us page for hours and a map.

TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program of the federal government)
CFS is a distributor of TEFAP food in Boulder and Broomfield Counties. To be eligible for TEFAP commodities, household income must be within 185% of the federal poverty level. TEFAP food is available once per month. Photo ID is required.
