Leave a Legacy

Including us in your planned giving provides the resources necessary to strategically fight hunger today, tomorrow, and in the future.

Community Food Share has been working since 1981 to eliminate hunger in Boulder and Broomfield Counties. In fact, we distribute enough food to provide 25,000 meals a day.

National research indicates that our efforts are having a positive effect on ending hunger in America — but we still have a long way to go.

There are numerous ways to give a planned gift to Community Food Share:

.

Gifts of Appreciated Securities

Did you know that gifting appreciated stock can be more beneficial than giving cash? Oftentimes, the deduction you receive from making the gift is less than the cost of the gift itself!

You may transfer appreciated stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares that you have owned for more than a year to Community Food Share. We will then sell your securities at the appropriate time and use the proceeds to support our efforts to impact local hunger.

You may use our Stock Transfer Form to facilitate the gift.

Gifts of appreciated stock provide the donor an immediate income tax deduction for the fair market value of the securities on the date of the transfer (even if you originally paid much less for them). Additionally, you pay no capital gains tax on the transfer when the stock is sold.

Gifts of Retirement Plans

Please consult a tax advisor to provide you with information regarding the tax benefits of such gifts.

Designating Community Food Share as the beneficiary of a qualified retirement plan asset such as a 401(k), 403(b), IRA, Keogh, or profit-sharing pension plan supports our mission while realizing significant tax savings for the donor. Identifying Community Food Share as a beneficiary of a retirement plan allows the donor to maintain complete control over the asset while living, but upon the donor’s death the plan passes on to support Community Food Share free of both estate and income taxes for the heirs.

You can simply request a change of beneficiary form from your plan administrator. When completed, please return the form to your plan administrator and notify Community Food Share.

Life Insurance

Gifting a life insurance policy to Community Food Share is easy and may utilize an asset that you and your family may no longer need.

Did you know that one of the easiest ways to support Community Food Share today and beyond is by gifting a life insurance policy? The donor can receive an income tax deduction equal to the cash surrender value of the policy. It is as easy as transferring ownership of a paid-up life insurance policy to Community Food Share — or purchasing a new policy and designating Community Food Share as your beneficiary. The life insurance policy can be cashed now or in the future to support the mission of Community Food Share.
