FAQ about Volunteering at Community Food Share

Regular volunteer opportunities are offered on weekdays between 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM (with extended hours on Tuesdays until 6:30 PM) and on the third Saturday of the month from 9:00 AM until noon.
Once you have completed a new volunteer orientation, we welcome you to drop in on Tuesday evenings 12:30-6:30 PM (no sign-up required). Please call and speak to our Volunteer Manager if you would like to schedule a group opportunity on a Tuesday evening. We offer weekend shifts every third Saturday of the month for individuals who have already attended orientation and sign-up for a Saturday shift in advance. We also have seasonal opportunities to help with special events. These opportunities are listed on our Individuals & Families page as they become available.
We welcome children as young as age 5. Children ages 5-14 must have an adult chaperone with them; we require at least 1 adult for every 3 children. Ages 15+ can volunteer on their own (with the exception of Driver’s Assistants who must be at least 16).
Yes! We are thrilled to welcome kids as young as age 5 to Community Food Share, while offering you the opportunity to engage your children in hunger relief. Yes: new volunteers must attend a 45-minute orientation to take a tour of the warehouse, learn about the volunteer tasks available, and receive safety guidelines. Orientation is offered every Monday at 4:00 PM and Thursday at 11:00 AM (excluding national holidays). If you need to schedule an orientation outside these times, please call our office at (303) 652-3663 and speak with a member of our volunteer department.
All volunteers must wear sturdy, closed toe shoes (no sandals) and sleeved shirts (no tank tops). All clothing should be appropriate for working in a warehouse environment.
Yes, we welcome volunteers completing community service for school, church, court, scouts, or food stamps. Please visit our Required Service Hours page for more information.
Sorting, restocking, or repacking food donations so they are ready to be distributed to the individuals and organizations that we serve. You can also help us pull orders for Partner Agencies, load and unload trucks, and do some basic cleaning and organizing of the warehouse. Please call us at (303) 652-3663 or email a member of the volunteer department if you need to cancel. That way we have enough time to find a volunteer to replace you.
Our weather policy is to close if both the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain Valley School Districts are closed. If only one district is closed, please call our office at (303) 652-3663. A recording will be posted by 7:30 AM if we are closed. You can also check our website’s homepage or Facebook page.
