What Does Food Insecurity Look Like?

There are many stigmas around who food insecurity effects and why it occurs, but in truth those facing food insecurity are our friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues. As a challenge that’s often faced behind closed doors, it can be difficult to picture and easy to overlook just how prevalent it is. All it takes is one unexpected life event and financial security can be put at risk. We believe, by sharing stories from our community, we can better relate to each other and appreciate the importance of our collective efforts. The smallest act of kindness can make a world of difference for so many in our community.

The Faces of Nourishment

Thanks to the support of our tremendous community, we’re able to see the faces of nourishment each and every day at our onsite and offsite food distribution programs!

Behind each image below, you will find key statistics and insights into how food insecurity impacts families, children and older adults in our community, and how Community Food Share is working tirelessly to address these challenges.

In Boulder and Broomfield Counties, a family of four needs to earn an annual income of at least $100,000 to make ends meet without public or private assistance

Families

6.3% of children, roughly 4,920 individuals, face food insecurity in our service area. Community Food Share supports these children through various programs, ensuring they have access to nutritious meals.

Mobility and health concerns become prevalent for many of our older adult neighbors. In Boulder and Broomfield counties, food insecurity affects about 7.3% of older adults, or approximately 2,700 individuals.
