CFS packs boxes full of food, designed to help to anyone in need of immediate assistance. They are available at police stations, government buildings, and churches, and at our warehouse near Niwot for walk-ins. In year 2008, we provided 1000 boxes of food.
| One day I happened to go up to our front desk and a woman, perhaps around 50, came in to ask for an Emergency Food Box . It seems she had been laid off and needed food. I could tell that she was very uncomfortable asking for help - perhaps she found herself in a position she never imagined she'd be in. She was very grateful for the food box, which contains about 25 pounds of non-perishable food and brochures in English and Spanish on where to find food assistance in Boulder and Broomfield Counties . We always keep these boxes around for people who walk in. We also supply them to churches and synagogues, and even police officers to keep in their patrol cars. To see someone in this position is very humbling and I was pleased that Community Food Share was able to help. |
Letter from the District Attorney's office, 20th Judicial District:
I want to let you know how significant the food boxes have been to the mediators who work in eviction court each Friday to assist people who are facing homelessness.
We see people each week who are facing a crisis, and the assistance and lift provided to them by the food boxes is remarkable. Last week a family of four received a stay on their eviction until they could obtain financial assistance with their rent, and they were so grateful to Community Food Share for the help when they opened the box in the Justice Center, loaded a stroller, and went off in a much better, more hopeful frame of mind - the gummy fruit shapes clutched in the 4-year-old's hands were the prize of the box!
We thank you for the extra effort it requires to deliver these boxes to the Justice Center. The judges, the clerks, and the mediators in eviction court recognize the great contribution Community Food Share makes in the efforts to help some folks avoid homelessness and hunger in Boulder County. |
